The Better Business Bureau has released its list of the top scams and rip-offs of 2009. Free trial offers capped the list, including online offers for acai berry diet supplements and teeth whiteners.

If you were ripped off by a free trial offer last year, you’re not alone. According to a survey by Visa, 29% of Americans believe that they have been deceived by a free trial offer online.

Other high ranking scams were grant assistance scams, robocalls, and lottery sweepstakes scams.

With the economy still climbing out of a slump and the unemployment rate still in the double digits, consumers literally can’t afford to waste money on scams or with untrustworthy businesses.

This year, resolve to be a savvier consumer. The BBB can help. For simple ways to become a savvier consumer in 2010, check out this list of top ten New Year’s Resolutions.

TimeShare rip off, trouble, complications. I began with a nice little club easy access to most properties, not usually a waiting list, all properties belonged to all members equally, if there was a sell off no one person would be stuff with a worthless title to a property no wants to visit. Enter the mega monster of time share swallowing up the little groups, I find myself forced to buy more credits to be able to use the old credits, forced to buy travel share membership monthly in order to be able to use my once nice mannered club. Having to plan a yea out to do things I used to be able to be able to do within a few months, even get great deals for some. So ripped off, paying the price…not getting in deeper, hoping to not loss my shirt; since resale is worth next to nothing.

A general rule of thumb I go by is to not click on anything that pops up on the screen. As consumers it is our responsibility to judge upon where, when, and how we spend our money. People should be weary of internet scams and always read the small print.

it is unfortunate that because of all the media coverage and celebrity endorsements of acai that a few people trying to make a fast buck now cause people to associate it with a scam. The fact is that acai offers some very positive health benefits. You can read about them
